                                                                       Representation of « Sunset »

I was led to believe that the material needed for the installation «Sunset » was free and available to use for the exhibition.
The materiel belonging to the circus «cirkusfera» and not the gallery as I believed was taken back and my installation, « Sunset » was destroyed. This is the reason why I chose to represent the idea of what it could and should have been. This installation also question the matter of space and perception of the empty space.
The area delineated with tape on the floor as well as the photograph on thewall allow us, the spectator, to have a pretty good idea of what the installation could have been. With these visual and spacial pieces of information we are able to imagine and represent in our mind the installation, which is a representation of a sunset.
By doing this exercice, the blank and empty space then becomes the mental representation of a physical depiction of a sunset.
Our mental image is also given limits within the space.
The tape on the floor is the limit, the outline of the crime, on one side what was,and is now again in a different way, a piece of art, on the other side it is just regular floor.

                                                                         The Animal Kingdom

The population of 3706 species of fishes, birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles dimunished by 60 % in the last forty years.
                                                                                                                                                     Futura science, 2018

Biodiversity is disappearing at a faster and faster rate, and yet we have never been surrounded by animals as much as today. They are everywhere around us at all time in the cities, in advertisings, brands logo, cartoons..
Not the animals themselves but their representation, a simplified image. In branding they are mostly used to represent a simple idea related to the product ( grace, power, speed...), in cartoons they often have human behaviours. In every cases the immense complexity of the living being is completely erased to just focus on one and only key characteristic used to put an idea, a vision in the head of the consumer in order for him to buy the product.
So ironically the main use of the animal representation is to feed capitalism which is then mostly responsible from the mass extinction of wildlife. Only the species that can be clearly and quickly recognised, identified and express a simple feeling have a purpose in that system. This makes the representations only focus on a few species, completely ignoring the immense diversity of life. On earth there is 8.7 millions of different species of plants and animals identified. If you enter the installation you see the representation of our society, our world, where the millions of representations are focused only on a handful of recognisable species. This piece presents the new era of the animal kingdom, an era where the only flying creatures are the Twitter bird and the Swarovski swan.
